They employ refugees to run tea stalls across London food markets that allows refugees to boost their English skills, regain confidence and work on skills required to enter the UK job market.

Job Responsibilities

• Prepare and serving a variety of Indian tea drinks at food stalls.
• Educate customers on Indian tea and the preparation method.
• Discuss with customers on the social purpose of the business.
• Mixing and packaging Indian tea blends.
Job Duties:
• Welcome customers to the tea stall.
• Sell tea and explain differences in the different types of teas sold, their ingredients and
the preparation methods.
• Mix, pack and sell tea blends by explaining the type of blend in detail.
• Educate the customers on the social impact of the business.
• Maintain inventories by replenishing tea-leaves supply, spices, milk and other raw
materials.
• Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, performing preventive maintenance and reporting any breakdowns.
• Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following healthy and safety standards
and sanitation regulations.
• Maintain the appearance (look and feel) of the tea stall at a high-level.
• Develop personal networks with clients looking for wholesale supply of tea blends.

Sona Translate is a response to the growing need for initiatives to support refugees. As part of the #SONA100, a challenge we set to create 100 opportunities in 100 cities for refugees, we are leading by example, by recruiting translators. Sona Translate aims to create double digit positions in line with the challenge, and encourage other businesses to follow suit.

Sona Translate is a global first for a Translations Services Agency; we exclusively hire refugees to complete translation services, thus allowing us to positively impact the lives of the individual, their families and the wider community.

As a translator, you would be responsible for the translating from your native tongue to the target language within a 48 hour turnaround time. The document length could vary from 500-5000 words so we are looking for a self-starter, who is fluent in at least 2 languages. The successful candidate would be required to translate a variety of content, including but not limited to:

Commercial

Educational

Legal

Literary

Scientific

and Technical documents.

Responsibilities

You will need to:

  • Read through original material and rewrite it in the target language, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained
  • Use translation memory software, such as Wordfast, memoQ, Across, SDL Trados and Transit NXT, to ensure consistency of translation within documents and help efficiency
  • Use specialist dictionaries, thesauruses and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used.
  • Use appropriate software for presentation and delivery.
  • Research legal, technical and scientific phraseology to find the correct translation
  • Liaise with clients to discuss any unclear points
  • Proofread and edit final translated versions
  • Consult with experts in specialist areas
  • Retain and develop knowledge on specialist areas of translation
  • Follow various translation-quality standards to ensure legal and ethical obligations to the customer.

Skill

You need to show evidence of:

  • fluency in two or more languages
  • a good understanding and in-depth knowledge of language/country-specific cultures, known as localisation
  • subject matter knowledge specific to the content you’ll be translating
  • excellent writing skills and command of grammar
  • attention to detail combined with the ability to work quickly to meet deadlines
  • the ability to use initiative in a commercial context
  • proficiency in the use of a range of computer packages – knowledge of translation-oriented applications and software is helpful, though not essential
  • self-motivation
  • Eagerness to acquire new knowledge.
